This was a MOA video for Lilly's product Reyvow (lasmiditan) explaining to patients about the anti-migraine medication.

One of my all time favorite projects, not only because of how beautiful it turned out, but also because the team was amazing and it was proceduralism heaven.

Roles

Modeling | Rigging | Animation

Software

Modo

Concept was to create a "light board" illustrating pain pathways in the head relevant to migraines.

The signal intensity in these pathways can be reduced, as shown by the ligands (blue marbles) binding to specific receptors resulting in reduced "current flow" and neurotransmitter release (tiny glowing marbles).

Technical Notes

Hero Marble Rig

A short demo of the Hero marble rig working in Modo.

Simmed Marble Roll Setup

Rolling a hand animated marble was not the trickiest thing to pull off. Modo ships with a built in Rotation calculator for keyframed animation. However, getting a couple hundred tiny marbles to roll was a different story.

I was picking up Houdini at the time and beginning to work with vector math. While I was figuring out the math in Houdini, I decided on a whim to try looking for the necessary nodes in Modo, and much to my delighted surprise Modo's schematic came with all the nodes I needed!

So after some effort I was able to piece together a rig that I could modularly add to any scene all within Modo :)
